Seeking the Remnant, The Native American During the Joseph Smith Period

Seeking the "Remnant": The Native American During The Joseph Smith Period, by renowned LDS Church Historian Ronald W. Walker.  Originally given as the Presidential Address of the Mormon History Association annual meeting, May, 1992.  Published in the Journal of Mormon History, Volume 19, Issue 1, Spring 1993.  Used with permission.  This document details the response of Joseph Smith when commanded by the Lord to "go unto the Lamanites and preach my gospel unto them" (D&C 28:8).  He immediately dispatched missionaries to New York, Ohio, and Missouri (D&C sections 28, 30 and 32) to preach unto the remnant Lamanites as directed by the Lord.  What most don't know is that Joseph continued sending missionaries to the remnant Lamanites for years afterwards, causing no small disturbance among the people of Missouri who were led by Indian agents to believe the Mormon's were forming alliances with the Native American remnant of the Lamanites to exterminate them.  This document will change your perspective on this important time frame in church history, and it will also clearly demonstrate where Joseph Smith knew the "remnant" of the Lamanites would be found.

Zelph Revisited

Zelph Revisited by renowned LDS Church Historian Donald Q. Cannon gives a historical background and details the accounts of several brethren who were participating in Zion's Camp march and wrote in their journals about the revelation that Joseph Smith had while exploring an ancient mound perched high on a bluff above the Illinois River.  Of the eight writers, three of them eventually became prophets of the restored church.  Their corroborative accounts demonstrate that the Prophet Joseph Smith was never tentative about where he KNEW the Book of Mormon to have occured.  Some have attempted to discount the historical Zelph account in order to place the setting for the Book of Mormon in Mesoamerica, however the true historical facts and information is invaluable to those seeking an understanding of the lands of The Book of Mormon.

Promised Land Prophesies and Promises

DNA Evidence for Book of Mormon Geography,  Sections 4 and 5 of the 18 sections in the DVD transcript.  This is a portion of the transcript of the live presentation.  Section 4 defines the Promised Land of The Book of Mormon from the scriptures themselves.   Section 5 describes the Prophesies and Promises in The Book of Mormon that must be fulfilled by the latter-day Promised Land, thereby giving clear clues about the new Gentile nation that will be a land of liberty, is above all other lands, where the gospel would be restored, and where the New Jerusalem will be built. These are two of the foundations that form the basis for the Heartland Model geography of The Book of Mormon.

Statements of Prophets on Evolution

Statements of Prophets on Evolution

This document is a compilation of statements and quotes by Prophets of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on the subject of organic evolution, including a formal pronouncement. It is 20 pages in length and should provide a good general perspective on the subject.  It is hoped that this information will help give insight and perspective on the teaching of evolution being done at nearly every university, college, and public high school across our nation to our most precious treasure, our children.
