Elections and appointments Next election
November 3, 2020
Greg is a native Utahn, born in Salt Lake City. He was educated in Utah Public Schools for the first 9 years, then attended and graduated from BY High’s Class of 1967.
He met and married his wife, Kathy, and the mother of his six children. She passed away in 1991. He finished raising his last three children still at home and worked.
VETERAN of U.S. Air Force
Greg is also a Veteran of the U.S. Air Force (Honorably Discharged), where he was a trained as a Tail-Gunner for B52s (graduating #1 in his class, a ‘Top Gun’ long before the movie came out), and a Unit Historian – this job is a journalism ‘shred-out’ where he honed his writing skills; used for the next 40+ years as a newspaperman in Utah and the Western Region.
MEDIA CAREER & Family
During his newspaper career, he was all over Utah, in Colorado, Wyoming, and California, too. He was also a radio news reporter (for KSL-radio and others) and radio news director in Utah and Colorado, including a TV news gig in Aspen.
His wife, Judy, was born in Indiana but spent almost 40 years in Washington State before Greg imported her to Utah. She is the mother of four children, all grown with families of their own, and one adopted daughter.
With this marriage, Greg counts his blended family as 18 ‘children,’ 73 grandchildren and 6 great-grands (and counting).
HIS POLITICAL ACTIVITY
In 1992, after his wife Kathy had passed away, he started working with the Utah Foundation for Open Government and the Society of Professional Journalists in drafting the National Model piece of Utah Legislation, the original Government Records Access Management Act (or GRAMA). The legislation was signed into law by Gov. Norm Bangeter in 1992, and was touted across the nation as a true National Model piece of Legislation.
From his high schools days he has been active politically. He first campaigned for Robert Kennedy and has been involved in the campaigns of both Republic and Democrat candidates, from Nixon (drat!) to Dukais, from Bill Orton to Scott Howell, from Rocky Giordani to Jason Christensen.
Greg ran for several elected offices, from School Board to a city council seat, then in 2000 he ran for a State Legislature seat, in 2012 for a State Senate seat, in 2016 for Lt. Gov., and in 2018 for U.S. Congress. Now he is the Utah Gubernatorial nomination from the IAP of Utah for 2020.
